E-Books

THOUSANDS OF SCHOOLchildren will be out today in spanking new school gear and bags bursting at the seams with books. But if the Barbados Association of Principals of Public Secondary Schools (BAPPSS) has its way, those days of toting books to and from school will soon be a thing of the past.

The move is also expected to save schools “significant” sums of money in the long-term.

Vere Parris, head of BAPPSS, told the DAILY NATION that plans were on stream to introduce e-books – books read on a computer or other electronic device – and the change could come as early as the next school year.

Noting that “there is a certain level of readiness” which could see e-books in use “even now”, Parris said it was only a matter of time before the printed texts were replaced.
