Residents in several districts of St Lucy got some much needed relief before noon yesterday, after being without running water for close to 24 hours.

Corporate communications specialist at the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) Joy-Ann Haigh told the DAILY NATION that a problem at the Alleynedale Pumping Station was fixed, and as of 11:45 a.m. yesterday, normal service had resumed to the affected households.

She expected customers to have had full service back by mid-afternoon yesterday.

“Right now we are happy to say those people in St Lucy can cook,” Haigh said.

For most of Saturday and close to half day on Sunday, people in Checker Hall, Fustic, Trents, Babbs, Spring Hall and several other areas were without running water and were unable to do things like washing, cooking, bathing and cleaning.

Following numerous complaints from customers about low pressure and water outages in various parts of St Lucy, investigations were carried out and it was revealed that there was a problem at the Alleynedale station, which also affected the facilities at Half Acre, Lamberts and Boscobelle.

While the BWA personnel were working to resolve the issue at Alleynedale, water tankers were dispatched to affected areas to assist customers.

BWA crews were also out in St Michael yesterday repairing a burst four-inch main in Whitehall Main Road. (YB)
