Easy victory for Maple

CGI Maple humiliated new boys Caribbean Alliance/Akobah Gardens Foundation to maintain their place as joint leaders of Zone B with ESAF Pickwick at the conclusion of the fifth series of the Sagicor General Super Cup yesterday at Trents.

Offspinner Jed Yearwood returned remarkable bowling figures of six wickets for five runs as Foundation were bundled out in 15.3 overs for a measly 20 before Maple went on to win by nine wickets, reaching the meagre target in just 3.2 overs.  

At Foursquare Oval, captain Kyle Hope, in partnership with opening bat Jamal Phillips, paced Pickwick to a one-sided, six-wicket win over the Barbados Defence Force Sports Programme (BDFSP).

BDFSP, behind knocks of 74 not out by Rico Wiggins and 71 from Marlon Welcome-Goodman, posted 226 for six but were upstaged by Phillips (85 off 83 balls; 1 four, 1 six) and Hope (73 off 46 balls; 6 fours, 2 sixes).

At Beckles Road, YMPC prevailed by eight runs in a close encounter with CounterPoint Wanderers after home skipper Shane Dowrich failed by six runs to record a century in his side’s 222 for nine batting first.

Dowrich, who opened the batting, fell off the first delivery of the final over after striking seven threes and three fours off 145 balls.

Wanderers faltered in their chase to be dismissed for 214 with three balls remaining to forfeit the chance to join Maple and Pickwick at the top of the standings.

At Cane Garden, Kofie Hurdle thumped a maiden century as Wildey made light work of Guardian General Youth, winning comfortably by 63 runs with plenty of time to spare.

The middle order bat hammered eight fours and five sixes off 131 balls in making 119 that led Wildey to 204 after the match was reduced to 45 overs a side due to wet conditions that resulted in a late start.

Barbados Youth surrendered for 141 off 34. 3 overs with Kyle Sargeant (28), who shared in a 95-run partnership with Hurdle, grabbing four wickets for 22 runs to complete a satisfactory all-round performance. (WH)
