There appears to be disagreement over Barbados’ readiness to deal with Ebola.
Acting Minister of Health Donville Inniss assured Barbadians yesterday that Government was being proactive in preparing for any suspected cases of the deadly virus, which has claimed more than 3 330 lives in four West African countries.
However, the head of the Barbados Association of Medical Practitioners (BAMP), Dr Carlos Chase, expressed doubt over the country’s ability to effectively deal with the virus.
The first case to be diagnosed on American soil this week has heightened concern in the Caribbean about the spread of Ebola.
Stressing that he did not want to create any undue panic, Chase told the WEEKEND NATION: “We had a meeting with the Ministry of Health three weeks ago and I was not impressed with the level of preparedness. I don’t think we understand the seriousness of this disease and I think we are totally unprepared for it.”
