By early next year, the country will know more of Barbados Light & Power’s (BL&P) plan for the inclusion of alternative energy in the production of electricity.

The island’s national power supplier has given its support to those choosing alternative energy such as wind and photovoltaic by encouraging them to stay on the BL&P grid and sell their excess power to BL&P under its renewable energy rider so that the entire country could benefit from the savings.

BL&P operations manager Stephen Worme told the DAILY NATION in a recent interview that the two year-old renewable energy rider that governed the rate at which alternative energy suppliers were paid, was recommended to Fair Trading Commission (FTC) to give it permanent life.

The company is awaiting final approval from the FTC on the terms and conditions on that renewable energy rider.
