PORT OF SPAIN – Wicketkeeper Sarah Taylor fashioned a fifth One Day International century and left-arm spinner Holly Colvin followed up with a four-wicket haul as England won the three-match women’s cricket series against West Indies 2-0 with a resounding 89-run victory at Queen’s Park Oval on Sunday night.
The 24-year-old Taylor struck seven fours in her fluent 108-ball knock, which lifted England to 185 in their 50 overs after the early loss of captain Charlotte Edwards, who was bowled by pacer Tremayne Smartt for six.
Taylor held the England innings together before she was last out off the final ball of the innings from left-arm spinner Shanel Daley.
Off-spinner Anisa Mohammed was the Windies’ most successful bowler with four wickets for 26 runs in a tidy 10-over spell. Medium pacer Deandra Dottin took two for 19 in her three overs.
Chasing 186 for victory, the West Indies slumped to 40 for seven before they were eventually dismissed for a meagre 96 in 36.4 overs.
Key batters Stafanie Taylor and Deandra Dottin both fell for “ducks” with the former going by the run out route.
Teenager Shaquana Quintyne top-scored with 36 not out off 64 balls with two boundaries. The best partnership of the innings was 32 between Quintyne and Mohammed for the eighth wicket.
Colvin ended with four for 17 in 8.4 overs.
The first match was rained out.
