Europe next tourism target

With Britons facing travel challenges because of the Chancellor of the Exchequer’s austerity measures, Barbados is looking to woo more European tourists.
“We will be hitting the continent hard, looking at creative ways of engaging with the big players in Europe and we are not settling,” Minister of Tourism Richard Sealy told reporters yesterday after attending a service to launch Tourism Week at St Andrew’s Parish Church.
Some success has been landed in Germany, with flights to the island already arranged out of Hamburg and Frankfurt, he added.
“We are looking at France and Holland and we want to go back to Italy as well and try to expand the opportunities out of Scandinavia.”
He said all this was against the backdrop of economic problems in Barbados’ major source markets for tourists – Britain and the United States. (TY)
