A funeral director is the first to be hauled before the court in a crackdown on the dreaded Aedes aegypti mosquito.

Michael St Hill, of St Hill Funeral Home on Bush Hall Main Road, St Michael, is expected to appear in a Bridgetown Magistrates’ Court on November 5.

On Tuesday, a case was lodged against him by the Principal Environmental Health Officer of the Eunice Gibson Polyclinic at Warrens, St Michael.

St Hill is being charged with knowingly permitting a number of containers which contained stagnant water and were breeding mosquitoes to remain on property owned or occupied by him, at Bush Hall Main Road.

It was revealed this week that health officials were going after those who were suspected of contributing to the breeding of the deadly Aedes aegypti.

Sources said that more prosecutions were likely. (AC)
