Opener Shacaya Thomas hammered a belligerent hundred, as defending champions Sagicor UWI romped to a four-wicket victory – their first of the season – against LIME yesterday.
The 24-year-old Jamaican’s 106 off 61 balls in 103 minutes was spiced with eight fours and six sixes.
UWI, needing 193 to win from a minimum of 42 overs, reached the target in the fourth of the final 15 overs to complete a come-from-behind win.
Thomas set the tone from the first over, which cost 22 runs from fast bowler Chad Batson and included two fours and two sixes off the first four deliveries.
He and Anthony Alleyne, who scored 20, put on 65 for the first wicket. Thomas reached his landmark with a single to long-off from Hayden Walsh.
It came off 56 balls and was punctuated with eight fours and five sixes. Eventually he was caught at long-off after posting 62 for the third wicket with Kyle Corbin.
Resuming from an overnight 24 for four, LIME were all out for 161. The last two wickets produced 88 runs. Leg-spinner Akeem Dewar claimed five for 69 to end with match figures of 12 for 133.
Ashley Nurse creamed a run-a-ball 50, including five fours and a six and Cyprian Payne made a solid 35 before he was lbw to Carlos Brathwaite, who took three for 51.
