ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Five flights on the Barbados route have been affected by the strike action at regional airline LIAT.
Earlier today, LIAT announced that flights LI362, 760, 727, 726 and 512 were among nine affected by the strike.
Flight 727 is the only one which departs Barbados. It goes to Trinidad via Grenada, while 726 is the return flight via St Vincent. Flight 760 is a direct flight from St Vincent to Barbados, and this island is one of several stops on the other flights.
Other countries affected include Antigua, Guadeloupe, Dominica, Guyana, St Maarten, St Croix, St Kitts and Nevis.
Pilots in the Leeward Islands Airline Pilots Association (LIAPA) have been on strike all day, disrupting flights across the Caribbean.
According to a press release, the pilots did not report for duty, nor was the company provided with the required notification of industrial action which is part of the agreement with LIAPA.
Several morning flights did not takeoff as scheduled and this pattern continued during the day.
LIAT said affected customers who wish to re-book will be allowed to do so without charge for one week from the date of their originally scheduled travel. After that grace period, “passengers will be required to pay applicable fare and change fees when re-booking”.
Passengers who are unable to travel because of this work stoppage will be issued full credit for future travel at their request under terms provided by the airline. When services resume, they are advised to contact LIAT Reservations to re-book before proceeding to the respective airports.
Meanwhile, those passengers who decide to travel but are unable to complete their journey due to the disruption, will not be provided with meals, transportation, hotel accommodation and so on. Those with connections are advised to contact their respective carriers. (PR)
