Students from schools across the island gathered at Queen’s Park for a literacy fair yesterday, International Literacy Day.
Booths were set up with books and literature for children to read and purchase.
A special feature was a Drop Everything And Read segment where people were encouraged to read for 15 minutes starting at 1:45 p.m.
Here, Minister of Education Ronald Jones speaking to some students of the Wesley Hall Primary School at one of the many booths. (LK)

The best thing I have seen in my country in a decade. But there are only 8 lines in this story and the journalist has not confirmed nor interviewed anyone from Ministry of EDU responsible for the organisation of the event.
We are still in worlds bottom 50percentile at less then 7 books read per capita, compared to 2 in Somalia and 17 in USA.
This is the SOLUTION to the social problems and illiterate thinking, behavior and ignorance that permeates the world, and is a plague in my country and 3rd world country’s culture. We condition children from young to use the tool of language comprehension to in crease their wisdom and literateness by increases the books read per capita. !
