NYON, Switzerland (AP) – UEFA charged Galatasaray, Borussia Dortmund and Basel today for fan disorder at Champions League matches.
UEFA said the cases involve a range of “crowd disturbances”, and throwing lit fireworks and objects at matches yesterday.
The cases will be judged on October 16 by UEFA’s disciplinary panel. Sanctions could apply before the teams’ next matches the following week.
Galatasaray fans threw lit flares onto the pitch during a 4-1 loss at Arsenal, briefly delaying play in the first half.
Because UEFA rules make home teams responsible for stadium security, Arsenal have been charged with “insufficient organisation”.
Borussia Dortmund face the same charges as Galatasaray for crowd disorder and fireworks during a 3-0 win at Anderlecht.
Basel are charged for fans throwing an object during a 1-0 home win against Liverpool.
UEFA already put the Swiss champion on a two-year probation for crowd trouble in the Europa League last season.
