A family of four is lamenting the loss of their home and all their possessions to fire.

On Sunday night, Ramnarmace Ramassar watched as his home in Fairy Valley, Christ Church, burned to the ground. A Guyanese national by birth, he has spent the last 16 years in Barbados, and the last four of those building his home.

He lived with his wife Phulmatie Mitra and two children, Ritesh Ramassar and Pooram Khailoo. He said the house was not insured.

Two other houses were slightly damaged.

Both candidates for the area, Dr Denis Lowe of the Democratic Labour Party and Wilfred Abrahams of the Barbados Labour Party, were on the scene offering assistance. (CA)

Really saddened by the loss of your home.

This is a speedy response from the political candidates. Is it my imagination or does it seem that things happens much faster just before elections?

It must be pointed out however that Dr Lowe's DLP government has not been very warm towards Guyanese immigrants last five years.

Why do you politicize just about every happening in Barbados, Mr. Harper? Why? Here we have an unfortunate event where a family lost its home and you're jumping on it to score some cheap political points for your party.

Now you have the right to support any party of your choosing, Mr. Harper. No right thinking person would begrudge your doing so. But to seize on a family's plight to make the PIP look bad is reprehensible, in my view. You need to cease and desist this practice of yours if you desire to write in a "fair and balanced" manner, befitting an otherwise eminent scribe.

It should be mandatory that all homes have home owners insurance.

Mr. Harper is in his element once again, politcal hogwash. I would like to believe that all countries have a right to control the inflow of immigrants, you simply cannot allow undocumented persons in your island using resources and not paying a cent tax or NIS. Come on now. I am used to politicians showing up when tragic circumstances occurs in their constituencies, both Bees and Dees. I endorse Randy Bridgetown 100% and I do hope the family gets the neccessary help to get back on its feet.
