When the Barbados Turf Club’s Autumn race meeting gets underway at the Garrison Savannah tomorrow, race fans will be seeing a new trainer giving last-minute instructions to jockeys riding the horses in his charge.
This new trainer is none other than Dennis Goddard, popular turfite and former groom. Goddard has recently been granted a trainer’s licence by the Barbados Turf Club.
Dennis Goddard, more familiarly known as “Walla”, by most race fans, will be saddling three horses at the Autumn meeting. These are Hidalgo and Annie-Lu for the Canterbury Syndicate, and Sir Roger for Mr. Goodwill.
“Walla” Goddard has been involved in horse racing for 18 years, most of which was as a groom, first with the Goddard stable in Barbados and then the Farfan stable in Trinidad.
