GAL FRIDAY: Dreams, days highlights in rewind

HAVE YOU EVER HAD one of those bad dreams that stay with you throughout life?
They could be dreadfully daunting, right?
I remember when I was about seven; I dreamt of a witch with wring joints following my father; and upon finding him, cut his chest open with a carving knife. He couldn’t escape because he was trying to get his glasses.
I was so mortified, I remember bawling out my liver and waking up the whole household.
I know you may say that that surely was an evil omen; and something bad must have followed.
Truth is, it was perhaps only because I was learning to play Three Blind Mice on the piano; and the words seemed to seep into my subconscious diurnally, causing me to seep into my mattress nocturnally, much to the bother of my brother, who shared the same bed at the time.
I say all this to say that I stumbled upon a “dream dictionary” yesterday at a used-book sale in Rendezvous; and only put it down about three hours later, when I was finished. After that, I went to sleep and didn’t dream a thing … and this is strange, for those of you who know me. But there are some interesting interpretations particularised, in case any of you share similar dreams listed in the lexicon.
Dreaming of wood ants? The interpreters state such is a sign of slow economic erosion. Either this, or you’ve been listening to too much Peter Ram from 2012. See, I have a theory… I know it goes against the timbre of the dream experts; but I believe that if you listen to songs or have an experience that really resonates with you, it will be reflected in your dreams or subconscious.
I firmly believe that’s the reason for the dream of my seven-year-old self; and many others.
Another one was when I was hooked on R. Kelly’s I Believe I Can Fly as my anthem.
One night, with the CD on “repeat” I thumped onto the floor, after dreaming I was flying with Kelly Johnally at karaoke. The day before, I was closing a sales deal with Kelly while the song played and thought to myself, “Humming with one Kelly and e-mailing another”.
To me, dreams are a mélange of experiences during waking hours. However, my friend Phyllis is in direct conflict with me on this.
She is adamant that her dreams are portents and told me a while ago, “I dream that this old man who was with the wife for years up and lef’ just so; so I got to monitor the situation.” Phyllis reminded me that she had the same dream only a couple of weeks ago.
“This time, the man not only lef’ but he went by the woman ‘cross the road who always cussin’ he.”
Where was she going with this? You guessed it: she says that it was a sign of the recent political rumblings. She was going with an omen regarding Owen.
