‘Gang up’ on guns

Former Attorney General Dale Marshall wants fellow parliamentarians to use their influence with constituents to assist the Royal Barbados Police Force in eliminating illegal firearms from the society.
Marshall, a veteran attorney and Queen’s Counsel, with responsibility as shadow attorney general, made the comments yesterday following the shooting death of 20-year-old Romario Yarde on Sunday afternoon.
Yarde’s death followed the murder of 23-year-old Mark Walton at Fitts Village, St James, not far away from his home on Kadooment Day, August 4.
“I recognise that the police, with limited resources, are working hard to tackle this problem, but they cannot do it themselves and must depend on the community around them.
“As part of our commitment to serve our constituents, we must implore them to assist the police with information about people who carry illegal guns in their communities. Too many lives are being lost as a result of this lawlessness. Imagine, a young man is shot in broad daylight on one of Barbados’ busiest roads. This is becoming frightening,” Marshall said.
