GOVERNMENT should take legal action to recover the millions of dollars owed to it, says Auditor General Leigh Trotman.

He told the DAILY NATION yesterday he was not satisfied that Government was doing enough to recover monies that were misappropriated or where people did not complete contracts but walked away with all the money.

And Trotman stated this inaction “sends a message to both the offending officers and the suppliers that there is not likely to be serious consequences for their actions or omissions”.

“I am not satisfied in terms of the actions taken,” said Trotman, adding that “some of the issues involve millions of dollars”.

I hope that just before retiring, this honourable Gentleman is awarded a very High national honour, for bravery, courage, honesty, and patriotism. Or he might even be the first recipient of a new nation honour: The L.T.P.A.E. (Leigh Trotman Patriotism Award of Excellence). Thanks you Sir..again.

Every year I read the auditor general's report and its accompanying recommendations, yet I am not aware of anyone ever being brought justice or disciplined.

Mr. Trotman, continue doing your fine and brave work of uncovering the irregularities within the public service.
