Gospel rocks City Fest

AN HOUR OF gospel power added blessings to the bustling Republic Bank City Fest And Ceremonial Delivery Of The Last Canes’ activities just after sundown on Saturday.
Perennial gospel favourite, the evergreen Sister Marshall, closed the proceedings on a high in Jubilee Gardens. She left the robust and roving audience in a Holy Ghost groove with a praise and worship medley, which included Solid Rock, Victory Is Mine and Every Knee Shall Bow.
No Sister Marshall set would be complete without Walk Holy, which struck the right chord with the young and old. She began her performance with I’ll Be Satisfied.
For someone who “once headed cane”, Sister Marshall also expressed pleasure at receiving the chance to sing during the official kick-off for Crop Over.
Paula Hinds was another big crowd-pleaser. Compelling voice aside, she finds a way to engage with her audience, an aspect of her style which has always gained her fans.
Those gathered in Jubilee Gardens enjoyed the singer’s refix of You’re The Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me, sung for Jesus of course, and Nobody Greater.
The soulful and highly talented Neesha Woodz rendered For Your Glory and praise and worship standard As The Deer, which sent hands lifted heavenward.
Other performances included a spirited presentation of Yes, Jesus Loves Me by Dancin’ Africa Juniors, and the Olakunde Steel Orchestra which started the gospel showcase with a selection of well-known songs. (LW)
