Government has lifted two important conditions surrounding the importation of used and reconditioned cars, making it easier for people other than new car dealers to land the vehicles in Barbados.
In a release yesterday from the Ministry of Commerce, the condition that “each importer must be the authorised distributor/dealer for the make of the vehicle imported, in order to safeguard the consumer against difficulties in obtaining spare parts and efficient after-sales services”, has been removed.
The second condition removed states: “Each importer must maintain an adequate stock of genuine spare parts to service the vehicle and have technically trained staff capable of carrying out efficient repairs.”
While these two major stipulations have been removed, the ministry has imposed a number of new rules. Under the new conditions, used/reconditioned vehicles being imported must be structurally and mechanically sound and in generally good condition. (GE/PR)
