BARBADOS IS LOOKING to establish an “isolation type” facility, rather than a quarantine facility to treat any patients who come here with Ebola.
?And they’re also looking to train a cadre of people who would be willing at a moment’s notice to volunteer their services within a difficult situation.
This was revealed yesterday by acting Chief Medical Officer Dr Kenneth George who said such a facility would cater to people who show signs and symptoms of the disease whether it is confirmed or not.
“We want people to get well in a condition that does not spread infection and protects the staff,” said George, who stressed the hallmark of such a facility would be good infection control.
Explaining the difference between an isolation facility and a quarantine one, George said the latter refers to securing people who are thought to be exposed to the illness but show no symptoms.
