Work on what will be Bridgetown’s newest green space has begun, to convert what was once the depressed Church Village district into an amphitheatre and community park.

The project, being spearheaded by the Barbados Tourism Investment Inc. (BTII), started officially on April 30 and, according to BTII officials, should be completed in approximately eight to nine months after the tendering process.

A SATURDAY SUN team yesterday saw first-hand some of the preliminary work being done in preparation of the project.

It is divided into two sections and will feature solar lighting, the use of renewable energy and rainwater harvesting systems. An official from the BTII told the SATURDAY SUN an archaeological dig led by the Barbados Museum & Historical Society was the precursor to the full rolling out of the project. (ROG)
