Hard task!

Hard task! THE SCHOOL day was short again yesterday, but students at Alexandra battled the rains to get to classes. (Ricardo Leacock)

SEPARATING JEFF BROOMES from Alexandra School may not be an easy task.

About 30 aggrieved teachers and their representative, the Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union (BSTU), have been pressing for Broomes’ separation from the school.

They believe it will bring an end to the multiple issues, but it seems he has a carrot that packs more wallop than the stick of the broom with which they want to sweep him out.

Broomes has the advantage of a letter which appointed him as principal of Alexandra School. He is among several principals, in the older secondary schools in particular, with that distinction.

Some of the others include the principals of Harrison College, Queen’s College, The St Michael School, Christ Church Foundation, Alleyne, Princess Margaret, Combermere and Grantley Adams.

Well, well, well. Didn't the legal advisers of the P.M. know this? Obviously Ms. Redman didn't know this either, or does not care.

Are we supposed to fill in the blanks in this article? Should I pick up my news through hints and innuendo?

Five people recommend this article even though it says absolutely nothing. Why?

Don't all principals have a letters of appointment?

What is significant about the letters for these select principals?

Are their "letters" carved in stone?

So many question ... so few answers given. Help me out Nation: Investigate!

So, it seems we're back to square one on the Teachers dispute. After all that time and all the talk about different phases, teachers are off the job again.
Many years ago there used to be a television lottery draw in which the presenter would spin a cage with numbered balls, and as he spun the cage he would declare in sing-song style "and around and around they go; where they will stop no one knows".

You ever hear the saying about absolute power and what it does? Well evidently some how this guy has been given it and it
and has gone to his head! Where are the checks and balances?
Teaching is a very stressful job in itself. Why should any Professional have to put up with this circus? Oh! and what ever
happened about the welfare of the children? Something is very wrong here.(politics I suspect, this is Barbados!) Have a nice day

When are the children of Alexandra coming in to play is this travesty. I see where the writer of this article mentioned a letter that Mr Broomes has as proof he was appointed principal of the school. Let's say Mr Broomes was working for a private or public company not associated with the government, and was given a contract to work. In his position with this company he was having problems in his department, with lost production, and creating friction among his employees, don't you think it would be in the interest of the company through his immediate Manager to move Mr. Broomes to a another department where he is best utilized. I think the same applies here, where Mr. Ronald Jones as the Minister of Education should do the right and move Mr. Broomes to another location for the welfare of these kids. In any organization production is the key and if these kids are not getting an education that means production is lacking. Wake up Barbados this is the 21st century lets stop the pandering, no one man is an island. Hosea G

"THE ADMINISTRATORS OF OUR EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM CONTINUES TO REVEL OR WALLOW IN OPACITY,POSTURING AND EMPTINESS".... RIDLEY GREENE..from the time i started following and commenting on this issue ,i zeroed in on the minister/ministry of education.minister Jones has put the prime minister out to pasture on this one.he knew all along of this obstacle, but instead of informing the public, and seeking a solution,he continued to add fuel to the fire.. no one would continue to be as defiant as the principal, unless they had an ace in the hold.finally that ace is revealed.. he appears to be untouchable,at least that's what he thinks.but whoever or whatever appointed him, can be challenged and the appointment can be reversed in the chambers of our elected officials,i remembered the pm saying that if there's any evidence of treason in his cabinet ,he will deal with it "swift and strong" i rest my case

Hog wash! I was appointed to a government Department too and transferred on appointment by the GG acting on the advise of the Chief Personnel Officer, Personnel Administration. The same one that the teachers marched to with a letter. Utter nonsense. Somebody correct me if the procedure for teachers differ. Besides, if the complaints of the teachers are strong, what is wrong with sending the Principal on special leave. It has happened before. When will the parents of these Alexandra School students take a stand on this?
