PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad – Machel Montano made it a hat-trick of victories in the 2012 Carnival celebrations that ended yesterday by copping the Road March title.
The Trinidad and Tobago Unified Calypso Association (TUCO) said Montano, who had already won the TT$2.5 million (US$416,600) first prizes in the Power Soca International and Groovy Soca competitions last Friday, added the Road March title after his tune “Pump up Your Flag” was played a total of 233 times during the final two days of the Carnival celebrations.
Montano will receive the keys to a brand new car for his victory.
He defeated Faye Ann Lyons-Alveraz and Iwer George into second and third positions respectively with their tunes “Misbehaviour” and “No Pains”. The judges said that their tunes were played 96 and 84 times each.
Brian Mc Farlane won the Band of the Year Title with his presentation “Sanctification – in Search Off” beating “Carnival the Golden Years” by Trinidad Revellers and “Flight” by Legacy into second and third places. (CMC)
