The families of the victims of last Friday’s Tudor Street, City tragedy have been on the minds of every Barbadian resident – national and non-national.

One such non-Barbadian is Jamaican promoter Jernell Auboine aka Fadda Jerry of Big Links Promotions. Fadda Jerry, who has often seen incidents like this in his homeland Jamaica, was shocked it could actually happen in Barbados, the country that he has called home for nigh four years.

Heartfelt tragedy

And he plans to help the children of those who perished in the Tudor Street fire last weekend.

“It’s really a heartfelt tragedy. It’s tragic in such a way that the hardest of hard persons feel it,” Auboine told the WEEKEND NATION.

“There is certain provision that is made for the young men in society here in Barbados, which it is not available to the youth in Jamaica,” the promoter explained.

“But this is not to say I am looking for an excuse for crime in Jamaica, because crime is crime. But when I come in Barbados, and I see the structure, the principles, I see everywhere possible for a young man to achieve and strive as long as he wants to.

“When you look and see true robbery, a man don’t care about six lives, and blatantly takes six lives like that, it is kind of rough.”

Auboine is of the view that what happened in Tudor Street last weekend should be a wake-up call to all mankind and all nations of the earth to get back to basics and turn back to Almighty God.

“The Bible says that in the last days the heart of man is desperately wicked above all things.

Uncommon

“That tragedy is uncommon to Barbados. I just came here four years ago; you never hear or see of them levels of crime. It is getting more rampant than ever.”

The promoter said he had chosen Barbados because of its “principles” and to get away from criminal acts and violence in his country.

“But right now something is going wrong in the minds of the [Barbadian] youth, and the authorities need to nip it in the bud.”

Auboine spoke to the songs of the day. “Some of today’s music speaks violence, and some people take it literally. But I as a person being here in Barbados, and watching the movement and the Royal Barbados Police Force, know that they are intelligent enough to bring forth the perpetrators [of last Friday’s robbery and fire].

“I rest in that fact that the Barbados Police Force is competent and able to bring justice to the family and friends of loved ones.

“So for this reason, I am appealing to whoever has information that can assist the police, just dash it out there, because it could have been one of [our] family.

Auboine expressed sympathy with the grieving families, while extending a hand to ease their burden.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to offer condolences to the families of all the six ladies who perished in the fire and robbery last week and to pledge my support to the child or children who were robbed of their mothers because of the senseless act.

Want discussion

“It is our intention to get in touch with their guardians as both myself and a few friends are desirous of having a discussion with them because we want to put a foot in the life of that child or children and help them throughout their school years.

“This is our way of reaching out to assist them in this time of need. We are appealing to any of these children’s family members to get in touch with any member from the Big Links camp.

“Our numbers are 236-6717 or 825-4535. Ask for Alison, Fadda Jerry, Melvina or anyone from the Big Links Camp. We want to meet with you . . . to finalise the arrangements to put a foot in the lives of those children [whose] mothers died. We are committed to doing this until they finish school. We can be reached at biglinkspro@

gmail.com,” Auboine said.

It is sad to see that it could come to this in Bim. When I read the story where 6 young women lost their lives in a senseless act Iifelt sad. This is not my bim, i have not been gone long but it was never this bad.
I really hope the public helps bring these killers to justice without delay.
My condolences to all the families who have lost a loved one
I am happy to see a non-national jump up and offer a helping hand to the kids who lose their mothers and I would hope the wider general public, Bajans step up and support this cause to see these kids onto a brighter future.

@Bajan in Florida KLT: I have never been more shocked and embarrassed by someone calling themself a Bajan making such idiotic and bigoted comment about another Caribbean National. Your comment is in poor taste and I hope that the decent people of Jamaica forgive YOU for your ignorance. You DO NOT speak for or represent the majority of Barbadians; except for what I do believe is your crocodile tears.

Bajan in Florida KLT

I am not Jamaican, but life is too short for such NONSENSE.

You need to stop with the prejudice, which is why there is so much division among the black race.  Your comments aren’t helping anyone – if you can’t write something nice, then SHUT UP!

I strongly condemn the statement by that Bajan in Florida,I have not heard who
is responsible for that horrible crime so you can`t
blame any particular nationals. Are you prejudice?
Barbadians are great copy cats,so don`t jump to any conclusions, let`s wait and see.Hope that the cops make an arrest soon.Condolences to the families.

Kudos to Fadda Jerry for his effort.  It is truly inwise to bury our heads in the sand and assume that no one born in Barbados is capable of committing such an act. Even if the act was committed by a non Barbadian, it does not mean that Bajans are holier than anyone else. If that was the case, there would be no need for prisons.  Regardless of who did this horror, support and condolences should be given to the family members of those lost in such a horrific way.  Then, communities must come together to enact ways to assure that things of this scale, or less stand less a chance of occuring again.

This is not the time for us to point fingers and assume who did this or not. What we do know is “it happened” and therefore let the authorities do their job. Unless the person/s responsible told you in honesty it was them, let’s not point fingers at anyone whether there be Barbadians or non-nationals until we know the perpetraitors has been caught. I have expressed my condolences in many responses and will continue to do so even now. There needs to be healing from this tragic mess and such will take time. To the families of those left behind time is a healer take as much as you need.

@BAJAN IN FLORIDA KLT: Now what do you have say this time? Two BAJAN men were arrested and charged for the criminal act that you were BETTING was committed by JAMAICANS. Your comment did remind me of the old song “FOOLS RUSH IN”. You think you can hide on the WEB, but NOT SO. Your judgement day will come; and it will not be pretty. I AM A BAJAN, AND I MUST TELL YOU THAT BIGOTRY IS LIKE CANCER. IT CAN & WILL DESTROY YOU.
