Medium-fast bowler Jason Holder ripped through the heart of the Kirk Edwards XI as the bowler-friendly trend continued on the fourth and final day of the final trial match at the Pine Basin yesterday.
In so doing, Holder led the Shane Dowrich XI to a comfortable 67-run victory, finishing with amazing figures of five wickets for nine runs from 7.1 overs.
Set a target of 143 for victory, Edwards’ XI never recovered from the early loss of wickets after slumping to 5-3 at one stage.
A fourth-wicket stand of 54 between Jonathan Carter, who top scored with 33, and the hard-hitting Dwayne Smith with 20, revived their hopes.
But once Smith was dismissed, caught by wicketkeeper Renaldo Holder who substituted for the injured Shane Dowrich, the innings went into rapid decline as they folded for a meagre 85 from 23.1 overs.
Carter struck some six fours during his knock that lasted 67 minutes.
Holder, who operated unchanged from the southern end, was well-supported by fellow pacer Tino Best and left-arm spinner Derick Bishop who both took two wickets.
With the match finishing as early as 11:53 a.m. the selectors, headed by chairman George Linton, delayed naming the local team for the Regional Four-Day championship until today.
