Housing stock in for boost

Private landowners are stepping up to assist with housing solutions in Barbados.
Without giving too many details, Minister of Housing and Lands Michael Lashley said yesterday he had spoken to a landowner at Mason Hall Street, The City, who wanted to partner with the National Housing Corporation (NHC).
“He is going to make the application to Town Planning to construct between six to eight storeys, and then he is sending the proposal to the Ministry of Housing and Lands to partner with us in some way that the Government and those on the waiting list can also benefit.
“Something like that we will work with because, one, we don’t have to look at land costs; two, the construction cost is at the contractor himself so there is no risk, basically, to NHC or the Government. So we obviously would facilitate something like that,” Lashley said. (YB)
