PLACE YOUR TRUST in the Ministry of Health and not obscure websites, said former executive director of the Barbados Family Planning Association (BFPA) George Griffith.

He said there was a lot of misinformation concerning the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine but both it and the ministry received their seal of approval.

“When the Ministry of Health launched the advocacy programme in respect to the vaccine, the BFPA was up front and centre and we lent full support to the Government. There are a number of persons in Barbados who are visiting some obscure and ill-informed websites – you will find opposition to anything and everything if you search the web for it – but we have to trust the good quality professionals in the Ministry of Health who recognise the incidents of cervical cancer in Barbados are rising and we have to find a way of ensure HPV is addressed as soon as possible,” he said.

Griffith was speaking during a Press conference  today to introduce new executive director Juliette Bynoe-Sutherland. He said the BFPA had been using the vaccine for almost two years and had not recorded any adverse effects. (CA)
