Idle talk

Bus commuters could be in for more delays today following yesterday’s wildcat strike that disrupted the Barbados Transport Board’s schedules islandwide.
A number of workers were heard expressing dissatisfaction with the Barbados Workers’ Union’s (BWU) “back to work” order yesterday evening, creating doubt that normal service could be guaranteed.
In a statement, the Transport Board made it clear it had no dispute with the BWU and considered the action taken by a group of employees as highly irresponsible. Some drivers and other workers stopped work saying that they were protesting certain working conditions and a supervisor’s handling of a driver’s request for time to get something to eat on Tuesday.
“We have a lot of burning issues pertaining to schedules, gratuity and pensions, but the one that broke the camel’s back was when a worker reported to his supervisor saying he was hungry but when he went to get something to eat, his hours were cut so now he won’t get paid for the day,” a self-proclaimed “agitator” Yvonne Jordan said.
