“This ain’t going down like NCC (National Conservation Commission). It ain’t going down like NCC at all!”

That was the stern warning to Government from National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) general secretary Dennis Clarke over the appointment of Jerry Blenman to manage both the Wildey Gymnasium and the National Sports Council (NSC) yesterday.

Blenman, a financial analyst, took over yesterday but his appointment came into effect on September 1.

He has been appointed executive consultant to the Ministry of Sports and, says Minister of Sports Stephen Lashley, his job will be to effectively manage both entities, create synergies between them and make them more efficient.

Lashley said Government was considering the merger of the two sports entities along with Kensington Oval Management Inc. (KOMI) which manages Kensington Oval, and to have one person assume the management responsibility of the two in the first instance created the kind of focus required at this stage.

But Clarke slammed the move, calling it “a flagrant disregard for the industrial relations process and for the consultative process that was established via the social partners and via Protocol VI.
