Job loss

As many as 100 workers from Amaryllis Beach Resort will lose their jobs when the hotel closes in six days.
Word of this came yesterday after it was announced that the Hastings, Christ Church property, owned by Leif Brandel, was sold to Calypso Caribbean Resorts Inc., which is under the chairmanship of local businessman and hotelier, Gordon Seale.
The plan is to close the hotel on June 4, redevelop the property, and reopen under a new name. During that process most of the workers will go on the breadline.
Brandel explained via a media release that he was retiring from the local tourism industry and wanted Amaryllis’ legacy of success to continue well into the future. He said he was fortunate to have found a local, successful buyer who planned to invest heavily in upgrading the hotel.
