Judge ‘on jury duty’

EMPLOYERS WHO SEND employees to check on other employees serving as jurors have been strongly rebuked by a High Court judge.
“It is a disturbing trend that I am seeing with respect to prospective jurors,” Justice Jacqueline Cornelius said in the No. 4 Supreme Court yesterday.
Promising to speak to the Registrar and the Chief Justice and ask them to make some kind of public announcement on the issue, Justice Cornelius said, “I want employers to understand that these citizens are not off on a frolic; they are not here as a matter of enjoyment. They are doing serious work.
“There is no necessity for employers to send other employees to check to see whether persons are on jury duty.”
