TWO OF BARBADOS’ talented young cyclists have been given a golden opportunity to spend the summer training under the eye of United States silver medallist Erin Hardwell while competing in what has been termed the biggest racing summer programme in the United States.
On Saturday the Kelly brothers, Jess, 17, and Joshua, 16, left the island for Trexlertown, Pennsylvania – where they could kick-start their Olympic dreams – thanks to support from Barbados Gold Buyers.com and the faith of their coach, Olympian Barry Forde.
In a brief presentation ceremony at Sentry Insurance, Pine Road, St Michael Forde spoke of the commitment of the two cyclists while lauding the benefits of the summer experience.
“Hardwell is a very good coach and the circuit exposes riders to the best in their age group,” Forde said.
“I have lived in Trexlertown for three or four years, training and competing, and the expertise of Hardwell will be a tremendous boost for the cycling future of Jess and Joshua.”
