Kilano Brathwaite struck the first century, while there were two five-wicket hauls in the opening round of the Inspire Sports/NSC Under-13 Cricket Competition last Sunday.

The tall, slimly-built left-hander made a boundary-studded unbeaten 166, spiced with 27 fours and a six. He finished three runs short of the record for highest individual score in the tournament, now in its fifth year. Limar Pierce, 169 last year, holds the record.

Brathwaite’s knock spurred three-time champions Fusionz Boutique Passage United to a mammoth 282 for two from 22 overs, against Al Falah Juniors at Passage Road in a match affected by rain at the start.

In reply, Al Falah Juniors were routed for 56 to lose by 225 runs.

At Beckles Road, off-spinner Jacobi Gooding bagged seven for 29, to bowl TeleBarbados Carlton Juniors to a 59-run win over YMPC Juniors who were dismissed for 158, needing 218.

Earlier, Kevon Connell made a valuable 63 in Carlton Junior’s 217 for seven from their allotted 35 overs.

Off-spinner Nimar Jones took six for 17, as Banks Juniors had a comfortable 81-run victory over newcomers Empire Juniors at Bank Hall. Chasing 224, Empire Juniors were bowled out for 142, despite a fighting 61 from Zion Judah-Hill.

At Dover, defending champions Dover Juniors brushed aside Mark’s Auto Spares Young Blazers by eight wickets.

Batting first, the visitors were all out for 53 from 21.1 overs and Dover Juniors responded with 54 for two in 8.2 overs.

The match between Northern Academy and Lords Juniors, which was scheduled to be played at Queen’s Street, will be rescheduled. (EDH)
