KRAIGG BRATHWAITE led from the front with a top score of 82 in pushing Barbados’ total pass the 200-run mark against the Windward Islands yesterday, Day 2 of their day/night WICB Regional first-class cricket match.
However, a keen battle had developed for first innings lead by tea at the Beausejour Cricket Ground.
At tea, the Windward Islands were 143 for four off 32 overs in reply to Barbados’ first innings total of 213 all out off 80.5. The not out batsmen were Keddy Lesporis on 41 and captain Liam Sebastien on 30.
Pacer Miguel Cummins had taken two of the wickets at that stage, having opener Devon Smith caught at midwicket by Rashidi Boucher for 12 as he miscued a pull and trapping Tyrone Theophile  leg before wicket for 13.
Andre Fletcher became pacer Tino Best’s 200th regional first-class wicket when he was caught down the leg-side by wicketkeeper Shane Dowrich, while Johnson Charles was caught at gully by Carlos Brathwaite off medium-pacer Kevin Stoute for 20.
Earlier, Barbados, resuming from 152 for five overnight, were dismissed just before lunch after play started 25 minutes late because of rain. Brathwaite, who restarted from 53, added a further 29 runs to his score before he was last out, caught at long-on by substitute Dalton Polius off left-arm spinner Alston Bobb.
Brathwaite’s innings spanned 333 minutes and he struck five fours while facing 251 deliveries.
Brathwaite and his namesake Carlos Brathwaite, who scored 44, shared an important 89-run sixth-wicket partnership.
Carlos, who resumed from 37, was caught by wicketkeeper Lindon James off pacer Nelon Pascal.
Ashley Nurse was also caught behind for a “duck” off Pascal, who then bowled Sulieman Benn before he could open his account.Best was pouched at point by Lesporis off Bobb for 19.
Pascal was the Windwards’ most successful bowler with five for 61 off 15 overs while Bobb took two for 27.
