Lashley: Do more for women’s cricket

THE?11th Annual West Indies Windball Cricket Festival recently held in Barbados was an unequivocal success and a credit to its organizers, but more still needs to be done for women’s cricket.
This is the view of coordinator Hamilton Lashley, who along with his team of workers from the Pinelands Sports Academy, presided over the annual Easter tournament at the Victor Houston Sports Complex, Meadow Road, Wildey, St Michael.
“The tournament was a tremendous success from the point of view that, for the first time in 11 years, we played in front of large crowds especially on the final day when the final was pre-empted by rain,” Lashley told MIDWEEK?SPORT.
The parliamentary representative for the St Michael  South East constituency was, however, concerned about the future of the tournament and the sport generally in Barbados. He said while the annual event received overwhelming support from clubs in Trinidad and Tobago and other Caribbean islands, only a single local team, Pine & Wildey, participated in this year’s competition, which attracted nine clubs.
