Barbadians were reminded yesterday that as they enjoy activities associated with Heritage Month the listing of important historical sites here draws attention to topics of world history with which many people remain “uncomfortable”.
This reminder came from Minister of Culture Stephen Lashley as he launched a month of  celebrations observing the second year since UNESCO recognized  Historic Bridgetown And Its Garrison as a world heritage site.
Lashley said the designation helped to redress in a significant way the current geographical imbalance within that record of places deemed important to world history.
“It drew the world’s attention to the immense contribution that these small countries have made to the heritage of mankind,” he said, and added: “It brought to the fore some topics with which many still remain uncomfortable.” (GA)
