POLICE have promised a “full investigation” into reports that a “toll gang” has resurfaced in Boscobel, St Peter, demanding money from tourists.
Public relations officer Inspector David Welch said yesterday that over the years the force had taken action against visitor harassment in Boscobel, with a number of people being prosecuted, but new complaints had been voiced.
He was responding to a letter sent to the newspaper from a frequent visitor to the island, who said that last Friday he had another encounter with a group of men who preyed on tourists passing through Boscobel in rented vehicles.
The visitor, who preferred not to be identified, said the “bandits” usually “run across the road” trying to get drivers to stop, then they “may force entry into the vehicle, they may demand money, they may grab something valuable and run off with it, or they threaten the visitor”.
