THE?HOLETOWN?MAGISTRATES’ Court is investigating how a sick certificate for drug trafficking accused Sebastian Theophilus Thorpe could be delivered to that court last week when he admitted he never went to a doctor.
Thorpe, 36, a fisherman, of Porters Road, Queen Street, St Peter, and Junior Michael Mascoll, 28, a groom, of Pipers Avenue, Bayville, St Michael, were arrested over the weekend during a joint operation by the Drug Squad and Barbados Coast Guard. Their boat was intercepted five nautical miles off Alleyne’s Bay. Cannabis valued at $1.3 million and weighing 661 pounds was found on the boat.
When the two appeared at the court yesterday before acting Chief Magistrate Barbara Cooke-Alleyne, it was revealed that Thorpe was supposed to report to the court last week on another drug charge, but a sick certificate was delivered to the court indicating he had a virus and could not attend.
Furthermore, police investigations revealed Thorpe was out of the island during that period, said prosecutor Sergeant Derwin Thompson.
