Lime action

DISGRUNTLED EMPLOYEES at telecommunications company LIME are on a work-to-rule ahead of what the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) has warned could be strike action next week.

Hours after that decision was taken at a meeting between workers and their bargaining agent yesterday, LIME said it had not closed the door on negotiations with the BWU and was committed to reaching “a fair and reasonable agreement on a wages deal” for its more than 600 employees.

Agreement on the work-to-rule came near the end of the three-and-a-half hour meeting at Solidarity House, attended by more than 300 workers.

“Until we achieve a resolution to this matter, while we are at work we are doing that which our contracts ask us to do and no more,” president of the union’s Cable & Wireless division, Shawn Knight, had proposed to a supportive gathering which also voted in favour of taking industrial action if top company officials fail to bring a better pay proposal on Monday.

LIME workers were always on a work to rule. Poor quality service, mega profits and now asking for salary increase. Where is the justice when landline and internet customers are being overcharged for mediocre service while the Fair Trading Commission prepare to endorse more increases.
