Barbados is to get a share of $2 billion in new investment telecommunications company Cable & Wireless (C&W) plans to spend.

C&W trades as LIME in the region and its Caribbean chief executive officer Martin Roos said spending the large sum signalled that the company was committed to the region, contrary to “a lot of rumours” that it was planning to pull out.

Speaking during an interview with the DAILY NATION at LIME’s Windsor Lodge, St Michael office, Roos also acknowledged that “at some point we maybe lost our view of why we were here and for some time I [we] think under served the Caribbean”.

“We have refocused the company with the approval of our shareholders and we have told the market that Cable & Wireless is here to stay and it’s here to invest in the Caribbean and Central America, which is the only market we are present in these days,” he said.

“It was a conscious choice to sell in the other areas so that we could have a more focused approach to rectifying some of the issues that we have had in the Caribbean and taking Cable & Wireless/LIME back to its glory days.” (SC)
