Barbadians will pay more for their landline telephones from next month.
Yesterday, LIME, the island’s only full service provider, announced there would be an increase in basic residential access effective October 15. Barbadians, however, will be heartened to learn costs for some of the value added services like caller name and number, along with call waiting, will be reduced by October 1.
Managing director Alex McDonald said the increase in the basic line rental was unavoidable in order to partly cover the rising cost of raw materials, including utilities and copper.
The valued added services will be reduced by $1, while the basic monthly fixed line rates will be adjusted by $1.90, resulting in a change in the rental charge from $42.10 to $43.99.
