Akeem Dewar captured seven for 56, but four-time defending champions Sagicor UWI, who are sixth in the standings, were frustratingly kept in the field all day by LIME yesterday.
Electing to bat, LIME ended on 203 for nine from 72 overs.
Opener Aubrey Towler was the mainstay of the batting, hitting a career-best 88, benefiting from six chances. He faced 209 balls and hit fivefours and two sixes in 255 minutes.
The tall and wiry leg-spinner Dewar, who was last season’s leading wicket-taker, again exposed local batsmen’s vulnerability to spin. He began his heroics in a sensational fifth over, taking three wickets with the total on 71.
Towler and Randy Thomas (18) added a steady 45 for the second wicket until Thomas was caught at the wicket cutting at the first delivery which extracted some bounce.
Two balls later, Kemar Brathwaite was squared-up and edged another one that bounced to slip. Ashley Nurse fell for a first-ball “duck” as he was trapped lbw to a googly.
Towler was first put down by the wicket-keeper on 11 and was also dropped when Dewar missed an easy caught and bowl chance on 30.
He rode his luck and brought up his half-century in the over before tea which was taken at 103 for four. Towler was then 51 and St Lucian Dalton Polius, on attachment from the Sagicor High Performance Centre, on six.
Dewar lured Polius into a drive and he was stumped by Nekoli Parris who had first put down Towler. Antiguan Hayden Walsh Jr, another of the HPC players, was caught off Dewar.
Dewar, who spilled one of the chances at mid-on, eventually removed Towler and Daley Hurley within two balls of each other.
Cyprian Payne with an unbeaten 27 and Chad Batson, 11, saw LIME to two vital batting points in an undefeated last wicket stand of 25.
