Prime Minister Freundel Stuart is preparing to make his first attempt at brokering a lasting settlement to the ongoing dispute between LIME and the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU).
He held separate meetings with the two sides late last week and is expected to soon bring them together for a new round of negotiations under his chairmanship.
Last month, talks broke down at the level of Minister of Labour Dr Esther Byer-Suckoo, with the BWU demanding a 17 per cent pay hike for employees.
However, LIME has been insisting that it can afford only a seven per cent increase in the current economic climate, even though its offer was raised by half a per cent to 7.5 per cent during the last round of negotiations. (KJ/DP)
