THE BARBADOS WORKERS’ UNION (BWU) and telecommunications company LIME are still waiting to hear when their pay dispute will be heard by Minister of Labour Esther Byer-Suckoo.
In the meantime, workers are sticking to the agreement not to take any industrial action.
Corporate communications officer Sonji Phillips told the MIDWEEK NATION that it was “business as usual”, following a breakdown in the last round of talks chaired by Chief Labour Officer Vincent Burnett on Monday.
Last week, BWU general secretary Sir Roy Trotman warned of a strike if LIME did not improve on its seven per cent offer to bring it closer to the 17 per cent being asked by the union.
However, the union had acceded to Burnett’s request to hold off industrial action to allow the Minister of Labour to try to solve the impasse, with Sir Roy acknowledging that while the workers might be angry at the pace of negotiations, he was confident they would respect the process. (DP)
