Maria didn’t really matter

Barbadians yesterday braced themselves for thunderstorms and flooding as the island remained under flood watch until 6 p.m. But Tropical Storm Maria turned out to be nothing more than a storm in a tea-cup.
The weather did not cause the expected dislocation and schools and businesses functioned as usual, with the flood-warning being discontinued after 6 p.m.
A check with the Disaster Emergency Management Services earlier in the day revealed there had been no reported calls for flooding, while the Roving Response Team said they too had received no calls for help from any residents in distress.
Boat owners at the Princess Alice Terminal did not haul up their boats. They told the SATURDAY SUN that they however opted to “stay inside” instead of going fishing. (CT)
