Trinidadian designer Donna Dove brought a wedding to the recent Jouvert on Labour Day in New York. Famous for her bohemian, ecletic looks, she says “Every year is a new and great idea. We don’t know what we will do until we do it . . . . We just let the spirit take us,” she explained, speaking to EASY from New York where she is based.
“The name of our band is Pagwah and this is our seventh year playing Jouvert. The name Pagwah is a Hindu name coming from the Holi festival which celebrates love, light, renewal. You come wearing white clothing and you get painted with pungent colours called abeer.
“This year the theme was De Wedding. We went to Tobago and piggyback on their Tobago Cultural Festival which show a wedding procession with men and women dressed in masters’ clothes.”
The designer, who recently showcased her collection in St Maarten at Colour Revolution, is also an artist. (NS)
