Mascoll joins CAC squad

THE BARBADOS TEAM to the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Junior Championships have been given a boost with the return of former CARIFTA Games 800 metres gold medallist Anthonio Mascoll for the June 29 to July 1 meet in El Salvador.
A 22-member team was announced yesterday by the Amateur Athletic Association (AAA) and the 19-year-old freshman at South Plains College, Texas, is coming off a fantastic season during which he broke the junior national record twice in the half-mile.
Mascoll lowered his own mark of 1 minute, 50.07 seconds to 1:49.73 the week prior to this year’s CARIFTA Games in Hamilton, Bermuda, but was not released by the school to defend his title in the 800 metres in what would have been his final year in the Under-20 division.
Two weeks later, he lowered the time even further to the current 1:48.36 and also had a time of 1:49.35 to win at the National Junior College Championships.
