BILLED THE Golden Anniversary Mega Concert, it promised to deliver patriotic performances from sons and daughters of the soil.

Consider that mission accomplished.

It started at 9:45 p.m. with the obligatory message from Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, and Queen Elizabeth’s message delivered by her grandson Prince Harry.

The two men combined have a lot of power, but Rihanna’s physical presence overshadowed them as she stood onstage waving to her adoring fans and the thousands who gathered on the historic grounds of Kensington Oval, including local and international media.

Even with the over 60 performers on the roster, the attendees really, really came to see Rihanna. The screams and shouts of adoration kept interrupting the PM’s and the prince’s speech. And when she posed for a photo op centrestage, the grounds were lit up with the technology present. (NS)
