Minister of Education Ronald Jones has described the actions of the Barbados Secondary Teachers' Union as a gross insult and the height of offensiveness.

An incensed Jones said the BSTU did not send a representative to the high level meeting at the Ministry of Education this morning, but instead, sent someone to record the deliberations.

Phil Perry, a past president of the BSTU, attended the meeting, which involves all the parties involved in the dispute, including principal of the Alexandra School Jeff Broomes, the executive of the Barbados Association of Principals of Public Secondary Schools (BAPPSS), as well as the National Union of Public Workers.

Perry was subsequently asked to leave the meeting.

Also in attendance are Cabinet ministers, including Attorney General Adriel Brathwaite, Minister of Labour Esther Byer-Suckoo and Parliamentary Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister Harry Husbands.

A short while ago, Jones told the Press that this behaviour of the BSTU cannot be condoned.

He said it was important for all parties to come together to find a solution to this issue.

While Jones said he could not say how the roads will "twist and turn" in this issue, he said they are seeking a resolution.

He said it was unfortunate that one party constantly wanted to lay down conditions. "If you don't do A, B will happen, and if you don't do B, C will happen," said Jones.

"We want resolution." he said.

please understand that i am not privy to the full story as i am an online reader and the nation   print snippets of the full article, i guess its a marketing strategy..the shoe is on the other foot, how does it feel? for all this time mr. jones and his ministry has neglected this situation, allowed it become a crisis, supported Mr.Broomes actions by ignoring the call of the teachers for resolution.I wonder if i would be considered an insult to mr. perry when he was asked to leave the meeting? “there are no little me’s and big you’s” here and if thats who the bstu selected to attend the meeting, then their decision should’ve been respected.could or would mr, perry speak for the teachers union? we will never know ,because he was evicted… before you throw stones you should cover your own glass windows. the cards are stacked in favor of mr. broomes.when mr. broomes was defiant about not wanting to meet with the teachers ,where was the minister? the body of evidence has been presented and subsequently presented itself based on the action, remarks and decisions already made by the said minister, the bappss, and the nupw.. can we be sure mr. perry is not still a member of the bstu, and if he is,doesn’t that give him the right to speak on behalf of the union members if they so decide?it is this same condescending attitude that has added the stick to the fire ? and i would add my stick?  .why isn’t the prime minister there but is represented by his parliamentary secretary,, what is the part for him to play, except to take notes and report to the pm. but he is considered a “big you” and mr.perry a"little me” i dont want to be popular or profound i just want to be fair….

It is call heredity,Cloning,DNA etc. Mrs.Redman and the striking Teachers are comparable - perfect match.
She is offended because the Prime Minister did not send her an official letter or chairing the meeting. Her reaction is 1(Mrs. Redman)+30(Teachers)=31 Mrs. Redman teachers on strike.

Minister of Education Ronald Jones’ call for resolution is exactly what needs to be done and should be heeded/adhered to by all parties. Not only should the mindset of problem resolution be adopted and embraced by the parties, a time-frame for dispute resolution should be quickly determined, set and achieved. All in support of Minister Jones’ call for resolution should voice/show him their support and immediately get on with the resolution process. How long is too long if too long is no good? End the impasse now!

“Jones Raps BSTU” Now that the Minister has encountered what The BSTU’s (Mary Redman) is like he should stop trying to have more useless meetings and appoint an Arbitrator with a timeline to put all the known facts together and render a DECISION, a BINDING DECISION. A DECISION that has to be acknowledged but all parties involved. and anyone, ANYONE who does not respond to that decision would be in dereliction of duty and be opened to being TERMINATED.
MR.MInister and Company,PLEASE STOP PUSSYFOOTING AROUND THIS TEMPEST IN A TEAPOT AND GET ON WITH LOOKING AFTER THE CHILDREN AND THE ECONOMY OF THIS ISLAND. No one Elected Mary Redman to Run the Island so please TAKE CHARGE as you SHOULD.
P/S-Mary Redman Needs to take some Courses in GIVE & TAKE

what can be said here that wasn’t said before? the minister had already made a directive,“go back to work” people please didn’t mr broomes refuse to meet with the bstu.and vowed he would’nt over his dead body… at that time mr.jones did not criticize his behavior.. how selective we are when we favour someone?here is a world of support for minister jones, and for what?  for belittling the representative sent by the btsu? quite often you can say too much ,and it can weaken your case/cause.. the arena/meeting was stacked against the btsu.the chairman of the meeting had previously made a directive.it would be in the best interest of the union and its members to rely on the facts presented before and leave it up to the chairman and appointees to make a decision, who else in favour of the btsu but mrs. redman was invited to participate.the presidents of the NPWU &BAPPSS; mr. broomes and mr.jones WERE SET TO RAILROAD MRS REDMAN.leaving the other dignataries no choice but to take their side, that why i sey” first lick teach monkey fe climb”.minister jones has already given the first lick when he choose sides by sending the teachers back to work, while allowing mr.broomes to continue in his post. what was the common sense thing to do?  go there let your emotions get the best of you, act like a alley cat and gih wunna more to talk bout. the truth here is that jones plan didn’t work and he realize that “man smart but woman smarter"so he come out blazing instead of licking his wounds admitting he is wrong and let justice prevail

WHEN YOU ACCEPT A LEADERSHIP POSITION YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE TO MAKE DECISONS,sometimes these decisions are not popular but as a leader you are required to serve with the best of your ability. The best managers/supervisor etc. can balance responsibility and commitment.here you see Mr. Jones dividing the issue and claiming that one party is laying down condition and something bout A-B & B-C,the on recurring in that analogy is B and that is my primary concern here ’ don’t let this lack of leadership, the inability or unwillingness to make unpopular but correct decisions be the foundation for the opposition to build election campaign on.

This is crazy- Mary Redman needs to realize these children and put her ego aside….i am very upset about this. I think people are thinkig so subjectively ....Mr.Broomes wrote a letter about a teacher who refused to teach and it went missing…her husband is an official in the ministry . His request was ignored or delayed by the ministry.Mary Redman was ignored by the same ministry. Mary Redman gives and ultimatum , parents are furious, teachers are stressed out and children are neglected and the country is upset. Are you trying to tell me that now that the issue is getting the attention it deserves ....Ms.Redman playin the fool..stupse….she does not care about the Alexandra children at all.
