CHAGUANAS – When the 2014/2015 budget is read by Finance Minister Larry Howai tomorrow, included in it will be a baby fund to help mothers in need with newborns.

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar yesterday announced that $500 per month will be given for a year to mothers in need.

She made the announcement at the Congress of the People’s eighth anniversary service at Plaza de Montrose, Chaguanas.

Speaking to reporters afterwards she said the fund should begin by October 1.

“We are looking at October 1 once the budget process goes through. We will have to create the criteria. It is not for every single family, it is for those most in need. Within the Ministry of the People we will create the criteria.”

The Prime Minister is also the Minister of the People and Social Development.

She said this was an issue very close to her heart.

She said she had a surprise for those involved in the labour sector.

Included in the budget will also be an allocation of funds for the manufacturing sector.

Tax administration issues will also be dealt with, she said.

Those who are involved in the labour sector will be well recognised, she added.

She also showed a copy of the front page of the budget document that will be read by Finance Minister Larry Howai tomorrow.

General elections will be held when constitutionally due and they are not due until September next year, Persad-Bissessar said.

“General elections will be held when they are constitutionally due. The latest is September 2015.
